Why is a Forged SAT 2041 Beta Titanium Face in demand?
Mizuno Golf Drivers 2023 feature the Forged SAT 2041 Beta Titanium Face, providing 17% greater tensile strength and 8% greater flexibility compared to standard industry 6-4 titanium used previously. The company claims this helps release more ball speed at impact while improving performance overall.
Forged SAT 2041 is a special alloy composed of 20% Vanadium, 4% aluminum and 1% tin to create an even stronger, lighter and more flexible club face than traditional titanium drivers. Plus, its anti-microfractures prevent damage during play for extended club life.
This driver face has been redesigned with CORTECH multi-thickness technology to protect ball speed across the club face. Made of beta titanium, which offers a higher strength-to-weight ratio than other materials, this driver face is more flexible and produces more springback for explosive impact.
Another improvement to the club head's weighting is a more balanced position between heel and toe, providing neutral ball flight bias. This provides an effective solution for players who experience distance loss with left-to-right trajectory changes.
Mizuno has been striving to make their ST series of drivers more appealing to a wider audience than before by using lighter components in the club head and introducing an array of visual technology that makes it easier for players to identify where the club head sits when taking address.
These models feature a lighter WAVE sole structure, more compact visual face angle bridge and super-lightweight carbon fiber crown that moves weight to key areas for greater forgiveness and MOI. Mizuno Drivers 2023 introduce the CORTECH Chamber, designed to make a big impact in performance. This complex multi-thickness construction combines a Forged SAT 2041 Beta Titanium face with MAS1C steel for powerful ball speeds and an intense sensation at impact.
Mizuno's CORETECH faces are now made with 17% stronger SAT (super alloy titanium) material compared to their previous SP700 titanium choice. Not only is this more durable, but also offers increased flexibility that allows Mizuno to reshape the club face for a springier feel and greater explosive power at impact without needing a forged titanium rim.
These properties make the CORTECH Chamber an ideal match, as they enable club faces to be thinner than traditional designs, giving golfers greater control and distance off of the club face. Furthermore, Mizuno engineers designed MAS1C steel with a waffle crown crown for added lightness compared to previous materials.
This waffle crown also helps to reduce bulk from less stressed areas of the club face for improved start condition and more forgiveness. Furthermore, it keeps the weight of the club head lower which increases launch distance.
With this in mind, the ST-Z 230 driver was engineered with a neutral bias to increase consistency on off-centre hits. It features the same MAS1C steel face enhanced by CORTECH Chamber as its counterpart - the ST-Z fairway wood - as well as a modern players profile featuring Quick Switch hosel adjustability of four degrees.
Plus, the ST-Z driver features a wide low footprint and neutral visual lie angle for improved straight line flight with lower spin rates. It comes equipped with an ultralight Helium Platinum shaft and grip to give you everything you need to address any challenge head on.
Similarly, the ST-X 220 driver has been designed with a draw bias to increase consistency on off-centre shots. It uses the same MAS1C face enhanced by CORTECH Chamber technology for all players; its slightly wider footprint than the CLK hybrid it replaces helps reduce spin and boost launch distance.
Two-Tone Carbon Fiber Crown

PXG has used AV composite material before, but this is the first time it's been utilized in a driver. Additionally, its lighter and thinner weave than regular carbon fiber allows it to be more rigid and retain less energy during deformation.
